Personal Experience and Additional Details
Having used the Kizer Drop Bear for several weeks, I can confidently say it lives up to the hype in many ways. Unboxing this knife, the first thing that catches your eye is the handle scales. Absolutely breathtaking. This is my first time checking out Nebula Fatcarbon, and it's better than any photo one could take of it. Not only do the colors pop, but there's this shimmer to it as you move the handle. The Nebula pattern on the handle is a real head-turner. It adds a unique flair that sets the Drop Bear apart from other knives in my collection.
*Ergonomics and Comfort*
From the moment you hold the Drop Bear, the ergonomics are immediately noticeable. The handle is smooth yet grippy, ensuring that the knife stays secure even during extended use. The balance between the blade and the handle is perfect, making it a joy to wield. Ergonomically, the handle is perfect. I review a lot of knives, and there are many great ones out there, lots I rave about. But very few are what I call perfect, for me anyways. The Drop Bear may only be a three, maybe three and a half finger handle, but I honestly don't mind. The handle is contoured in a way that it feels like it was made for me. I love a knife that allows a full-sized grip, but sometimes they command the pocket in terms of space. The Drop Bear doesn't take up a lot of room and is lightweight to boot.
*Deployment and Locking*
The Thumb Stud and Clutch Lock mechanism offer a seamless deployment experience. The knife opens swiftly and locks securely in place with a satisfying click. This mechanism has proven to be reliable, with no signs of wear or loosening after continuous use. The Clutch Lock is easy to disengage, allowing for smooth one-handed operation.
*Cutting Performance*
The S45VN blade performs exceptionally well in various cutting tasks. Whether it's slicing through cardboard, rope, or even preparing food, the Drop Bear handles it all with ease. The edge retention is impressive, and I've yet to notice any dulling despite frequent use. The drop point blade shape is versatile, making it suitable for both precision tasks and heavy-duty cutting.
*Aesthetic Appeal and Durability*
The DLC coating is really durable and hasn't shown any signs of damage. It complements the handles well, even though it's a solid color. A nebula is in the blackness of space, so I think it's rather fitting. The coating does pick up stuff, but it wipes off super easily. Both the blade and pocket clip are treated with the DLC coating, giving them a deep black color that's highly resistant to scratches. This is the first instance of Kizer using DLC coating on a product, significantly enhancing both the aesthetics and durability of the Drop Bear. The coating ensures the knife maintains its sleek appearance and robust performance even after extensive use.
*Portability and Clip Design*
Weighing in at just 3.51 ounces, the Drop Bear is light enough to carry comfortably in your pocket. The pocket clip is titanium, as are most clips these days. Sometimes you get either a flat titanium or a 3D milled clip; this one is the best of both worlds. It has the look of a traditional clip but features a thicker belly, which I feel helps keep it in place on thinner fabrics. The 3D reversible pocket clip is a nice touch, allowing for customizable carry options. The knife sits deep in the pocket, staying discreet yet easily accessible when needed.
*Final Thoughts*
The Kizer Drop Bear is a fantastic addition to any rotation. Its combination of high-quality materials, excellent design, and superb performance make it a standout choice. Whether you're an experienced collector or new to the world of knives, the Drop Bear offers something special.
