*Ergonomics*
One of the standout features of the Bailout is its ergonomic design. The anodized aluminum handle not only looks striking but also feels great in hand. The diamond texture on the handles does an excellent job enhancing your grip. I'm so glad some companies don't just go with smooth aluminum handles. This pattern has helped in situations where my hands are wet—really great idea, guys. When gripping the knife, you've got two positions. One where your thumb is on the ramp, which has jimping to give that extra traction. This puts the knife in a position that's great for thrusting or anything that requires the blade to be pushed forward. The second grip I use is with my thumb on the spine of the blade. I use this grip for pushing the edge through thick rope, heavy cardboard, and other fibrous materials. This allows me to push the blade down and into the material I'm working with. Despite its robust build, the knife remains incredibly lightweight at just 2.70 oz, making it easy to carry daily without any inconvenience.
**Deployment**
The Bailout’s deployment is seamless, thanks to Benchmade’s renowned AXIS Lock. The AXIS is impressive with its butter-smooth operation, allowing for quick and secure blade deployment and retraction. Dual thumb studs facilitate quick blade deployment, ensuring you’re always ready for action.
**Performance**
Performance is where the Benchmade Bailout truly shines. The CPM-M4 steel blade offers superior edge retention and toughness, making it perfect for rigorous use. The blade is super thin for a tactical knife, making it effortlessly move through materials like a thinner traditional pocket knife. The high flat grind makes it perform amazing; it's not something I'm used to seeing on something this tactical. Tactical is usually thick and beefy, able to take some serious abuse. This knife is thin, yet retains its strength. Very lightweight and versatile—I'm impressed, to say the least. Whether you're cutting through cardboard, plastic, or more challenging materials, the blade maintains its sharpness exceptionally well. The Cerakote finish adds a layer of protection against corrosion and wear, enhancing the knife's longevity.
**Personal Experience**
Having used the Benchmade Bailout frequently in my daily routine, I can vouch for its versatility and reliability. This knife looks and feels like it's more tactical than practical, but with continued use, it's proven to be an excellent daily carry. The knife's lightweight design made it a go-to in my carry rotation, fitting comfortably in my pocket without being obtrusive. The tanto blade excelled in various tasks, from opening packages to slicing through tougher materials with ease.
The pocket clip works great. I tend to like a long deep carry clip; this is my second short clip from Benchmade. I honestly think I prefer them to the ones I've been using. With some clip designs, you can have the clip dig into your palm during heavy use sessions. The mini clip sits right in your palm, and its small size helps keep it from digging in.
Overall, the Benchmade Bailout is a remarkable EDC knife that balances lightweight design with robust performance. Its blend of CPM-M4 steel, ergonomic construction, and dependable AXIS Lock mechanism make it an outstanding choice for those seeking a reliable, high-quality knife for everyday and tactical use.
